St. William is again hosting the Ecumenical Lenten Luncheons at Noon on Wednesdays during Lent starting March 4th. Each Wednesday clergy from different Churches in the area will conduct the service which will be followed by a light Lenten luncheon. The program always proves insightful and interesting, and it is a great opportunity to meet people from our Community.
It’s time to get your annual flu shot. The experts strongly advise to do so by the end of October. Those 65+ years of age should always ask for the "Senior Flu Shot," which is 24% more effective for seniors than the regular one. IHM Bereavement Support Group continues this Wednesday thru November 13th. We will meet at 9:30AM in the upstairs kitchen. These sessions are meant to be a comfortable, casual and confidential way for all who have lost a loved one to listen and share their experiences and gain some healing. Bishop Begley Conference on Appalachia on “Working for Safe and Affordable Housing in Far Western North Carolina” will take place in Franklin, NC on Saturday November 2nd starting at 9:30AM. The conference will focus on efforts by varied non-profits to provide affordable and safe housing in the far western counties of North Carolina. Catholic Charities is conducting a Day of Reflection at St. William on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 with moderator Sr. Mary Hugh Mauldin, RSM, MA. The topic is “The Beatitudes and Living the Christian Life.” There is no charge for this event which begins at 10AM and concludes with a prayer service at 2:20PM. Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided. These programs have always been a huge success in the past so please be sure to include this event as part of your preparation for advent and the birth of our Savior. Sign up sheets are available in the Commons area of both Parishes and all are welcome in our House.
Knights of Columbus will have a fish fry next Friday, June 14th, from 5PM-7PM out at the Pavilion on the campus of St. William Church. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children. Dinner will include locally grown mountain trout from Andrews, French fries, slaw and brownie. Soft drinks and water will be available. In the event of rain they will move the dinner into the Commons of the Church. The Knights always put out a great meal at a great price so mark your calendars and join us Friday.
The Angel Tree is up and waiting for you to pick out your special angel. Gifts must be placed under the tree no later than December 16th. Gifts will be distributed on December 17th. For some recipients, this will be the only gift they will receive. Remember, there is a $25.00 gift limit. If you have any questions, please contact Carole Johnson at 837-3316. The final drop off for the Marine Corp. Toys for Tots Program is December 10th. Their Toy Box is sitting in the Commons, and your unwrapped new gifts are much appreciated. One of the best ways to make sure these Cherokee County children are remembered is through a check made out to “Toys for Tots”. You can give the check to Bob Schmitt or to Gail Maloof at the church office. Please put your donation in an envelope clearly marked “Toys for Tots” in the weekend collection basket. Your continued generosity is a hallmark of your Christian Love.
A two-part performance will be presented by the Cherokee County Women's Community Choir and a men's barbershop chorus at Little Brasstown Baptist Church at 7 PM on Sunday, December 2nd and again at St. William at 7 PM on Sunday, December 9th. Prelude starts at 6:45 PM. There is no charge to attend this celebration of our Savior's birth.
The IHM Community Choir will perform a Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 15th at 1:30 in the Sanctuary. The choir will perform the cantata "Come to Bethlehem" with orchestra. In addition, there will be special guest musicians performing your holiday favorites. All are welcome!
Join the celebration on Saturday, May 5th from 5:30-7:30PM in the Fellowship Hall at IHM. Tickets are $10 per person and $5 for children and you will feast on Authentic homemade Mexican food and enjoy traditional entertainment. Tickets are available at the Church until May 4th. There will be a Right To Life, "Life Chain" in Murphy this Sunday October 1st. It will be held on the sidewalk in front of the courthouse. We will begin at 1 PM thru 3 PM. There will be signs for each individual. This is a prayerfully silent event proclaiming life is a gift from birth to natural death.
To all you wonderful bakers - the Cajun Fest Bake Sale is on Saturday 9/16. Cookies, cakes, pies, breads, scones, cupcakes - all baked goods will be happily and gratefully accepted. Please bring them to the Commons on Friday 9/15 or to the Bake Sale tent (near the Pavilion) on Saturday 9/16 before 10AM. And don't forget the Cajun Fest Famous Cake Walk!
